Death Note 23 AND 24 – Out with the new, in with the old Kira?

Thoughts: Episode 23: As Higuchi’s time ticks away, the more desperate he becomes, the more exciting I found it. When they all see him use the Death Note and wonder why he’s just written down someone’s name, I thought to myself: pure genius! That was an agonising twist and of course, a logical one at that. It never occurred to me before that when they saw the Note they’d think anything other than, ‘Oh my god, they’re using a notebook to kill people’. It really shows how believable the concept of the Death Note is, despite it at first being a very foreign idea to us. Light even thinks it’s juvenile to imagine such a thing upon his first discovery.

Throughout the episode I kept feeling very uncomfortable and I’ve only just discovered why through writing down these thoughts. Light and L working together is…unnerving. Aha, and the action in this episode was brilliant. A car chase, a helicopter and a trap! And so that leads on to the next episode and I could not possibly contain my anticipation at the time (despite being quite ill).

Episode 24: Aha, we all knew what was going to happen didn’t we. But the beauty was how it happened. The memories, the schemes, everything that made this anime what it is, have returned. A godly cry seems to scream out as the red-eyed Light returns. Oh, how I’ve missed that evil grin! It was interesting to see the deals made and how clever Light really is. Truly, to think that far ahead and to even consider making fake rules is ingenious. All that happened in the previous episodes were foreseen, planned and used to Light’s own advantage. The original Kira has returned, at last! However, L knows there are two. Therefore, he could possibly know that Rem is lying for someone. But why would he lie? To cover someone up, obviously. And L knows this. Something else I found disturbing is Misa’s devotion to Light.

She’s not got much time left at all after making another deal for the Death God’s eyes.. I fear we won’t be seeing Misa-Misa for much longer. Yeah, I do like her after all. I think. On another note we see Light’s god-complex resurface. He claims to desire to live with Misa in his new world. Is he sincere? Is he saying this because he knows her time is up? Is this just a sick mind game he’s pulling? Personally, I believe it could be any or all of these – Light has clearly been corrupted by the Death Note. But it’s all very debatable isn’t it…
