Death Note 27 – M and N’s bitch fight

Thoughts: Well, I honestly thought Melo would be a good guy for a few seconds. Then the odd clothing and the tough looking guys kind of gave it away. Oh, and the hostage. I was a bit disappointed that Near seems like an L clone. I was hoping for a bit more personality to come through. But maybe next time? I would have loved the introduction of Melo and Near to be more exciting. But, I don’t really have any attachment to them right now. So really, I didn’t care about them and their problems that much. What was good though is that there are more than just two sides. It’s no longer Light and L. It’s also against some power hungry guy with a chocolate fetish who was raised in some institution with Near. It was nice to see how everyone had aged as well. Sayu no longer whines! *cheers* Misa does though. Can’t win them all eh? Oh and I wonder how Light will cope with the revelation that the SPK and the president know he’s a fake. Not so easy anymore!

Summary: At the institution we see Melo and Near hear of L’s death. However, a successor hadn’t been picked by L. Refusing to co-operate together, Melo storms out, and leaves Near to run the ‘SPK’ (Special Provision for Kira). He quickly discovers the existence of the Death Note and also assumes there are two of them. They plan to get the one being held by the Japanese police.

At the Yagami residence, it’s clear how they have all aged. Sayu’s grown up into a beautiful young woman, who clearly is much more mature than Matsuda. They all have a lot of fun laughing at him (as usual). Marriage is brought up and Misa gets a little excited. But a phone call interrupts their get-together. There has been a kidnapping.

Police Director Takimura is held to ransom in exchange for the Death Note. They are startled, for they thought they were the only ones who knew about it. It’s certainly not public knowledge. So at first we assume Near and the SPK have arranged this…. However, this isn’t the case. Meaning: someone else has done the kidnapping. So that means the Death Note is known to someone else…And that person is Melo. He’s older, he’s dressed strangely, and he’s with some tough looking guys. And they mean business- they want BOTH of the notes. Melo will be number one if he has them.

Light uses the Death Note to kill Takimura. However, Melo and his gang claim it was them. But that’s not all. Where’s Sayu? They have her. Bound n gagged and everything. Chief Yagami, afraid they’ll kill his daughter, says he’ll take the Note to them. Light is distressed and thinks they should make a plan first. But will there be enough time? Light, the first Kira, the Second L, talks to Near. He tells Kira about the SPK and how they know about L’s death. Naturally, L is shocked. But he knows that Near must be his true successor. Oh, the difficulties this will cause…
