Before the spring season I was really looking forward to this show, the trailer looked great and the idea of “girls with guns” was too appealing. Too often I see this series being contrasted with Noir and Madlax, although I haven’t seen them, I feel they have perhaps set the bar quite high for this genre. However, for me this is something fresh and new so when I come to watch Noir and Madlax this summer, El Cazador will be constantly on my mind.

So far I have seen up to episode 9, and I can say that this is quite different to what I had expected from the trailer. I was prepared for something dynamic and perhaps an engaging plot, however what I got was something slow paced and relaxing to some extent. Each episode is a story of it’s own, most of which are meaningful and perhaps touching at times, as Nadie and Ellis’ journey towards the south progresses we also see more and more of Ellis’ power. Everything is pretty much a mystery to this point and very little is revealed. There are so many questions from “who Ellis’ actually is” to “wtf is with the sync orgasm”, I am expecting a lot as the plot unfolds little by little.

Haven’t really been all that exciting, but for some reason this show never seem to bore me. Thinking back not many things happen in any one episode of El Cazador, some people can even summarize the whole episode in a few words; “Old man dies” or “Nadie and Ellis escapes”. By having this slow pace I think the audience can see a lot more of Nadie and Ellis’ personality, and probably let us emphasize and understand the story a lot better later on. Talking about personalities, Nadie <3!

Overall the quality is very good and the music goes well, at the moment I feel everything is a bit fragmented but I hope soon enough everything with be revealed and the pace will step up a bit, shame I cannot catch up completely since my Internet is screwing around. Definitely will be keeping this series, want more of Nadie! Want more of Ellis! Want more of MAO!

I’d have to say El Cazador would be the Diet Coke of Noir and Madlax. You never see Nadie kill anyone even if they have it coming, except maybe once or twice. Usually the badguys just kill each other or get themselves killed while chasing Ellis.

I have to agree that the episode about the mob was a lot of wasted potential. I was expecting Nadie to go rescue Ellis, who had once again gotten herself “Megged” and have to shoot her way out, but no… this is Madlax Lite.

But like Madlax people get around rather quickly. A character can be working at the Bureau one minute and then be in Mexico for a quick brainwashing session with their psycho assassin, then back home for dinner. I swear, in Bee Train’s universe Frequent Flier Miles must be amazing.

    well well,
i do have seen noir and madlax and it’s quite obvious:
they use the same basic plotline “young mysterious girl & little older professional”
they even use almost the same character design
as already mentioned cazador is pretty slow paced, noir was awesome, madlax had nice action, but cazador feels like studio bee train is getting ready for pension…

the soundtrack is starting to bore me, too.
kajiura yuki does make nice soundtracks, but having the same person do the soundtrack for a show that’s been directed by the same guy featuring the same characters done by the same guy for the third time in a row is a bit much.
the only real difference is the slow pace and the “sync orgasm”.

    uhm.. kthx, next one please.

It’s very interesting to see Bee Train make 3 series so similar in the same decade, the impression I got so far from you two is that they didn’t even bother re-designing anything…. Nevertheless I will have to experience Noir and Madlax myself, since it’s hard to believe they can be as dull as using the same theme 3 times without making much effort to differentiate between them.

take a look at the design of the two main characters if you watch those series…
they are just living off the girls-with-guns craze
in a pretty “cost effective” way :/
