Catch Up: Seirei no Moribito - Awesome!

I have to say I am enjoying Seirei no moribito a lot, I believe it’s one of the better ones this season if not the best. The story itself isn’t over complex or too original but the animation is very well done, so far there are plenty of developments and excitements. I found out that this series is actually based on a set of novel by Nahoko Uehashi, of which Seirei no Moribito is one of 10 in the series.

The first arc was really engaging and introduced plenty of characters as well as concepts of what was going on, when Balsa takes on the job of protecting Chagum to finding out about the egg inside his body. Balsa is obviously awesome, a few episode explored her past and why she is taking on such a dangerous job, apparently she needed to redeem herself by saving lives of others. In a way I think her having to raise Chagum up reflects her past, she was taken in as a child as well but now she is the one doing the child-rearing. I like the idea of spear wielding as well, as mentioned in one of the episode a spear is a foot soldier’s weapon, however Balsa managed to defeat 4 warriors of the highest class earlier in the series, she may have got injured but that was purely because she did not wish to kill.

Apart from the first couple of episode where the man hunt took place, I really liked episode 10. This was where Chagum shows off his intelligence and his amazing ability to observe and analyze. Although Balsa claims that he needs to be taught how to live and think like a commoner I think Chagum is capable of much more. Since the start of the series he has probably changed the most, by traveling with Balsa has probably broaden his view and perceptions, a lot of things he wouldn’t have learn by being a prince.

I am really curious about where the story will lead us, since they have no particular goal. Balsa just need to raise Chagum and protect him, but as long as he’s alive the country is threatened by droughts and the water fiend inside of him. Speaking of which, Tanda’s teacher set off on a journey to investigate however even now we still know nothing. I am glad this is 26 episode, since I feel there is a lot that can be explored and developed, great stuff!
