Claymore 17: Riful is nice…

Thoughts: Another really good episode of Claymore, with the conclusion of this arc, Clare has now got a destination and a single digit henchman. No one was really the “villain”, since Riful is only recruiting because she’s forced to by Isley, and Galatea let Clare escape even though she knew it was against her orders. Riful couldn’t have been nicer to them really, she even told Clare who she was seeking, and most importantly let them live and escape.

I don’t know why Jeane aimed for the throat, when she could have just burst Duff’s head like a balloon, her awakened form was quite flashy and in some ways, elegant. It seems like there are more and more of these “half awakened” Claymores. Clare actually steals Galatea’s technique in controlling one’s yoki, really she’s becoming a Claymore with abilities from other high ranked warriors.

Even though Galatea is number 3, she couldn’t beat Duff in a 1 on 1, pretty sure we will see Duff again. She will probably get punished by the organization since she disobeyed orders, to be honest I can’t really remembered what happened in the manga. The final scene with a group of Claymore being sliced up in a snowy mountain must be the army of awakened beings Riful spoke of, looks like they are making a move as well. I am guessing the next arc will be the final one of this season, perhpas fillers to follow? Don’t think much will happen in the next episode, but I am sure you will laugh when you find out what happened to Raki.

Summary: Sorry no summary this week (file decided to corrupt, hence no screenshots), WRex has done a fantastic job on it as usual.

Riful FTW. I really wouldn’t blame a Claymore if she joined up with Riful at all - probably one of the best career moves in that world IMO. I think that she likes and respects Clare’s desire as well as Galatea’s power and the fact that they could work so well together. Why waste so many peon Awakeneds when 3 high class Awakeneds who can work extremely well together can do the job to help weaken/take down a rival Abyssal?

I’d be careful about turning Riful into a saint ;) … I mean, she still had 2 Claymores killed and was about to torture the rest into awakening. And her handling of Duff was about as “tough love” as it gets *grins*

Then again, I love her because she’s a good sport. She’s fun. She’s smart. She doesn’t toss her underlings to the wolves. She opens up an entirely new faction and makes us wonder what is really “good” or “bad” here. And - whenever she gets teasy-playful, I can’t help but giggle. I mean, the tirade about wanting to share in Camraderie had me in stitches ^_^

“I don’t know why Jeane aimed for the throat”

I think this is because Duff basically is one giant armour, with weak points here and there. Think of it as his bones being as hard as diamond, while his flesh being not as hard as that. Therefore, you’ll do much more damage at his throat, than at his brains, which is protected by a huge skull.

“Then again, I love her because she’s a good sport. She’s fun. She’s smart. She doesn’t toss her underlings to the wolves.”

It depends on which underlings. The youma of a few episodes ago were slaughtered mercilessly. :P

But that’s not been Riful’s fault. If anything, she taught them to cooperate, and so increase their chances of survival.

Without spoiling too much: Throughout the entire story so far, Riful has been the only faction leader who has NOT been seen wasting away her underlings.

I see Arakan7 has also taken a liking for Riful xD, I would say she probably the “kindest” Dweller of the deep

psgel, that does make sense, the idea i had was that they wanted Jeane’s power because she can penetrate that tough armour, but I guess you are right. I couldn’t help but think of Gurren Lagnn when she used her “drill” attack ^^;.

Mentar, she may not be a saint but all the “bad” things shes done was really the done because she’s been forced to and as you said she taught them to co-operate. Trying not to spoil too much either (spoiler, lol) Riful was the only one without any “troops” out of all 3 abysmal ones so she couldn’t really waste them.

    Laughingman, hi to you too …. ^___^;;

Yeah, but Riful still loli despite her actual age so…meh. :D I know she’s not a saint but she’s a heck of a lot better than the others, especially the ORG. Lesser of the four evils and from the way she’s presented, she’s not ‘evil’ but that her nature dicates that she does things that other beings consider ‘evil’. Ah, to have a philosophical discussion with her would be fun. ^^Just have to make sure that she’s well fed beforehand.

@ Gabest, haha a claymore bargain!

@ Arakan, her loli appearence is indeed misleading but since Claymores don’t age on the outside I am assuming the same for Awakened beings. I got a feeling that she will have to die, since “bad” guys (at least thats how the claymore perceives the Dwellers of the deep) always loose =P.

Riful isn’t nice, she is sadistic. If she was nice she wouldn’t have tortured Jean. She ultimatesly lets them escape was so as to let them get stronger before making them awakened to become her ally,

Sadistic? guess thats one way of putting it… She really only tortured Jeane and her comrades so she could force them to Awaken, her enjoying it may be another thing, but i think thats the main reason for the torture.
