Seirei no Moribito 20: A caring Balsa

Summary (short): Shaman Torogai manages to persuade the hunters and master Shuga to return to the court in order to decipher a tablet which apparently holds a solution to saving the prince. After their departure, Balsa and Chagum returns. Soon they left the village and headed towards the Hunter’s cave. This cave was used long ago by the shaman, Tanda and Balsa. It appears this cave reminded Balsa of her guardian, someone who brought her up; Jiguro. Meanwhile, Shuga returns to the court and immediate ask for assistance to help decipher the ancient text. Once Balsa and the others have settled down, Balsa suggested they prepare for the upcoming winter by stocking up food and water. Over the next few weeks, Balsa trains Chagum to be able to catch food and prepare them for storage. It was winter already. One evening, as Balsa nurses Chagum’s sore hands, she tells Chagum a little bit about Jiguro.

Thoughts: Who would have guessed that shaman Torogai would be able to talk herself out of the situation, I was expecting them to fight and perhaps pull a few tricks like before. As the plot develops, it reminded me a bit about Heroic Age. Taking the lasers and explosions out, neither side is really considered as the villains and they conflict due to a similar goal. The episode itself was a bit slow but not a generic kind of fillery episode, even building up to the climax I can see the on going developments between Balsa and Chagum.

I think for the first time Balsa has really been portrayed as a caring mother, a rather gentle side of her which seem to be reserved untill now, to help Chagum through her harsh training. It was nice to see her teaching Chagum all these survival skills, and what a clever way to catch fish! Little kids like Chagum annoys me in most series, but not Seirei no Moribito. Perhaps it’s all the developments, I am actually feeling sorry for him, especially hearing that he will die.

The art for this episode was stunning, seeing the scenery changed as they got closer to the caves and watching the landscape turn snowy. The quality of Seirei no Moribito has always been high but this one appears to exceed it’s average. I am really desperate for next episode, since it’s about Balsa and her childhood. Loli Balsa is so cute ^^;.
P.S- Sorry for being lazy for the past month, truth is I find it much easier to marathon series without blogging about them. Today is my last of my holiday, so hopefully I will be back to my daily blogging schedule from tomorrow.
