Claymore 23: And Raki arrives…

Summary(short):As the fog disappears it turns out only Clare’s legs have awakened. At first she couldn’t control the extreme speed but gradually she was able to control even the minor movements. Meanwhile Raki arrived but he was shocked to see Clare in her half awakened state. As Clare released more and more yoki, Priscilla started to act strange. The episode ends with Rigardo getting cut into pieces.

Thoughts: It certainly didn’t feel as dragged out as last week, but still I think the fight scene was longer than it needed to be. Although it does illustrate pretty well how Clare pushes herself to the limit and eventually gains control of her awakened legs. There are obvious changes compared to the manga, which I won’t bother listing, but perhaps one major one (and probably most disappointing) is Clare’s awakening, it seem to me that the battle is already over and we won’t get to see more of her awakened state. I hope they are reserving it for a fight later on or something.

Not much on Isley and Priscilla, just the odd one or two comments on what they think the outcome would be. By the end of the episode Priscilla was pretty shocked, perhaps she recognizes a familiar yoki within Clare (Teresa and Irene?). Raki’s appearance was quite frustrating for me, even though he is annoying I wanted Clare to at least notice his presence but yet he was too wimpy to do anything but fall onto his knees.

Only 3 weeks left, so I really hope they have planned a second season for Claymore since there is a lot to be explored. Galatea was in the preview so it really does look like they want to wrap things up. I guess all we can do is wait.

I’m rather disappointed in Raki at this stage. They beefed up his role but haven’t delivered yet. I’d really want to see how he fits into all these. Thing about most of us anime watchers is that we’re so used to see “aces” fighting each other, that all the smaller and weaker characters just don’t seem necessary. But in other mediums such as movies and novels, a lot of drama comes from the smaller characters when they find themselves dealing with the impossibles.
Good job with the review and keeping it tight.

I agree, for someone who traveled so long and hard his actions at the scene was pathetic. Thanks :3

raki is a mere human after all. cant expect something dramatic from him.
prolly what i want to know is Clare’s reaction when she see Raki.

Just saw this episode recently, its getting more and more violent (thats my way of saying its getting more and more awesome!!!) Its nice that they have focused on Clare’s journey but just like Ray mentioned I would have liked to see a little more about Raki and whatever he is doing. I had initially thought that Raki was to be one of the main characters, a pair just like in many anime (guy & girl) like Fate/stay night or Shana, but it seems that Raki is quite detached right now from Clair I don’t think they will scrap him but I wonder how long it will take for him to be given a defined role.
