Seirei no Moribito 21: Balsa’s past

Thoughts: This episode was executed very well, especially with Balsa narrating and expressing her thoughts which we may not have understood otherwise. I’ve actually been looking forward to an episode like this since until now not much about Balsa was revealed. It may be subtle but it seems Chagum and Balsa is getting closer once again.

What surprised me most was they never showed Jiguro as a parent, of course he doesn’t want Balsa to live a life of blood shed which was made very clear but I wanted to see how he actually dealt with Balsa, like how she teaches Chagum certain things. Not sure the slap was suppose to symbolise anything but I thought it was a nice touch to make Chagum remember what he had done to anger Balsa. The fights were, too, amazing. In fact one of the scenes we have already seen previously when Balsa was immobilized in the forest but since it was so long ago, rewatching the same scene didn’t matter especially this time the whole story was revealed.

As Balsa tells the story I noticed it started snowing, so it’s winter already so I guess the story is coming to an end soon. Shame that Balsa’s past didn’t conclude this episode since by the end I was really itching to see it, cliff hangers… I hate them. Judging by the preview it looks like Balsa will be training Chagum for combat, rather than survival skills this looks slightly more exciting.
