Fall’07 - One Paragraph Impressions

So, here we go, in no particular order.

Blue Drop

For me this one is a bit of a weird mix, haven’t heard anything prior to watching it, I thought it was another show with about school life. But by the end of the first episode, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect any more. It is certainly interesting and from reading around it seems that there’s going to be yuri in it as well. The execution of the episode was pretty well done as well, keeping a nice steady pace as characters were introduced and eventually ending with a mystery.

Myself; Yourself

This is actually one of the few shows that I have seen two episodes for this season. Despite the fact that I’ve been told its generic, I still liked it. At least it has yet to loose it’s steam after two episodes. Things seems to be developing quite fast, it looked like Nanaka was jealous before even forgiving Sana. A bit of fan service here and there, the ED is quite catchy too ^^;

Ghoshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun

You can never have too much fanservice! Ecchi comedies are always welcomed, of course I won’t be expecting anything deep or “intellectual”. Really enjoyed it, definitely one I will be keeping.

ef - a tale of memories

Perhaps it’s due to my fatigue, but I found this incredibly dull. The whole thing just seem too surreal, the conversations, the execution, everything. Admittedly some of the character designs were nice, but it’s not enough to compensate for it’s over surrealism. While some loved it and others (like me) didn’t so much. Hopefully the next episode won’t be like this.

Kimi Kiss -pure rouge

Possibly my favorite so far, what I think makes it so specially is that there are a few stories going on at once. The comedy was good with a slight sprinkle of ecchi, I am glad that they didn’t put too much of it in there. On top of that the characters appears to be pretty interesting. Animation wise, the quality is top notch and the OP compliments it well. Reading around, a lot of people will be keeping this show, so I won’t hesitate to do so as well.

Night Wizard

Not impressed at all. There were nothing particularly bad about it but neither did it have anything good. It could be due to the version I got, but the animation also looked a bit patchy. Since this is based off a game, which I have not played, perhaps it’s aimed at those who have played rather than those without any knowledge of the series. I’ll give this a few more episodes.

Dragonaut

I am sure you’ve all read what I am about to write; BOOBS. That aside, the episode wasn’t all that bad, although I feel that it may get some time getting used to the art. Just like Blue Drop (Gonzo as well), I liked the pacing and execution of the episode. Of course still a lot of things to be explain, but thats given since its the first episode. Hopefully Jin and Toa will make a pretty cute couple ^^;

Kidou Senshi Gundam 00

Never really was a Gundam fan, in fact I’ve only seen a few Gundam series. Prior the season, I had already heard more criticisms than I can remember. So far it’s another, lets stop war with firepower!, type of story but then again we can’t expect to see Gundams in action without war. Not much on the main character, Setsuna, at all but hearing Lights voice, I automatically assume he is an intellectual. Nothing impressive so far.

Shugo Chara

If I’ve had a look on animedb or something before grabbing it I am certain I wouldn’t got it. But I am sort of glad I did watch it, the idea’s pretty interesting and is sort of fun to watch; dealing with Amu’s “real” self. It’s pretty cute, but still I am surprised that I liked it. Glad I am too lazy to do some research before getting it >_<.

Rental Magica

Pretty average, again I am not particularly impressed. At least the actions were quite dynamic and was nice to watch. I have a suspicion that this will be an arc base show where the company Astral will help clients who come to them for help. Glad that there was a trace of comedy or perhaps even romance. Rental Magica could turn out to be just another shounen series.

Bamboo Blade

Can’t remember the last time I watched a sports anime. Quite a fun show to watch, a lot of interesting characters too. Kyokii has already written a post on it, here.

Shakugan no Shana II

You really think I won’t do a post on Shana? Click here for Kyokii’s and my thoughts.

P.S – Apologies for not being able to have done some impressions earlier. This was because Wordpress 2.3 really screwed me over, broke a lot of things which I couldn’t fix. Thank you to Maestro, for helping me to sort it out. I have fallen a little bit behind, hence the rather short impressions, nonetheless this season isn’t all that bad.

    Completly agree about ef, totally pointless random effects kinda ruin what could otherwise have been pretty good.

    ef - A Tale of Memories:

    If there’s one thing I learned from a while back, it is to never to judge an anime haphazardly. I stuck with Sola from beginning to end with its ups and downs and, in the end, it was well worth it. Sola ended up being one of my favorites of all time… well, enough of Sola… my point is I will give this one another chance like Ruki. The first episode was… really confusing as they were jumping from one scene to the next. Maybe there is a method to the madness? We’ll find out.

    Myself;Yourself:

    This is one of those animes I didn’t anticipate for the Fall, not that I liked or disliked it based on previews; I had no opinion. However, after watching it, I’d have to say it’s pretty funny… and is it me or does Aoi-chan have a voice that grates on my nerves sometimes? XP Aoi is win. I hope it keeps up the good pace and development.

    Gundam 00:

    Nothing spectacular. The premise is war, of course. I’ll still watch it just to see where it goes, but that in itself is not hard figure out, really.

    Shugo Chara:

    Having read the manga, I had to check this anime out (I’m a fan of Peach-Pit). Right off the bat, the first episode is different from the manga, but it isn’t necessarily a bad thing; It keeps it fresh. I found this adaptation to be quite entertaining, actually. Amu’s every bit as cool as I thought she would be. XP

    Rental Magica:

    I have been eagerly anticipating this series when it was announced. The first episode only mildly met my expectations… since the storytelling was a bit random… but that does not mean it won’t get better. I have good hopes for this anime. I just hope it does not turn out to be a “monster of the week” type show.
