Myself; Yourself 13: END and Series Overview

Thoughts (contains spoiler): The episode actually turned out a lot better than I had expected. What surprised me was that Nanaka’s past, which I had waited so long for, was much less complicated than speculated. It was short as well, didn’t even take the episode to the half way mark. But then again, they did have a lot of things to tie up. After the first half, it became apparent that both Sana and Nanaka are both big fans of Shiori.

I have to admit, they pulled a fast one with the time skip, which completely caught me off guard. At that moment these were my thoughts: “You… you just can’t do that!”. But they did. Reminds me of those Chinese drama I watch, where this “X years later” technique is almost compulsory for every ending. It was nice to see all the characters all grown up.

Nanaka and Sana, as one would expect, ended up together and although not shown, Sana did propose. After seeing adult Nanaka in that dress on stage, playing the violin, I can only say Sana is a lucky man. Whilst, there were less focus on the other characters, it was still interesting to witness how the others changed with ten years. Hinako ceased to be a loli, but still remained flat chested. Despite the appearance, Aoi is still Aoi, her -full of win- voice unchagned! Even though we don’t actually get to hear the twins, we do catch a glimpse of them holding hands, not to say they are in love though =P. Other characters like Asami’s cousin and the teacher also appeared for a few seconds.

All in all, the ending itself isn’t bad, not too sure about the pacing leading up to this episode though. All the mysteries behind Nanaka and Sana unfolded itself quickly. The 10 year skip was a good idea since it did act as a nice epilogue to draw everything to a close; a happy ending. After all, how can it possibly leave a bad impression when it ended with such a nice melody?

I wonder what that short scene at the end after the ED is supposed to represent?

Series Overview:

Myself; Yourself is quite a mix. When I picked up the series I was expecting a romance story, a harem and some light comedy. However, it turned out to be something quite different. Rather than romance, the series conveyed more of a friendship element to it. Not to forget, without spoiling too much, there’s also some mystery to the whole thing and at times even ended up spilling fair a bit of blood.

With all these things jumbled into a series with only 13 episodes, things are expected to go wrong. And it did. The pacing is very bizarre, and to be honest characters like Hinako was probably better off not being there. A lot of the surprises were just there to link up bits of the story to make things work. Which really, isn’t a clever twist but rather a dumb idea.

The animation was never that great to begin with but it was watchable, the music on the other hand was really good. The OP and ED were catchy as well, although the animation for it was a little misleading.

So, Myself; Yourself isn’t that bad of a series. I am sure many will disagree since all the random “twists” and surprises did, at one point, make the whole show seem rather retarded, but really, it turned out okay. Perhaps it’s one of those things, you either like or not like.

M;Y was a series I looked forward to every week. The many plot twists kept things interesting… even the last episode was O.O

I still want MOAR caramel… and Nanaka.

hmm, probably because of budget and it’s really more a promotional series for the game than anything
