D.Gray-man 79: “You are….”

Summary: As Kanda struggled towards the exit, Skinn Bolic stood up once more. Driven by his hatred for God, Skinn launched his final attack, a powerful lightning bolt. For Kanda, dodging was not an option since the exit was just behind him, hence, again, he called upon his taboo three illusions. He was at his limit but he knew very well that he had to block, however Skinn’s attack was getting stronger and stronger. Kanda’s sword shattered under the immense power. An explosion followed.

As Skinn walked towards Kanda, who appeared to be unconscious, he declared his victory. Suddenly there was a light, a beam which joined pieces of Kanda’s shattered sword back together. Catching Skinn off guard, Kanda delivered the final blow. At that moment, Skinn realised something about Kanda but before he could express himself his body turned into dust.

Finally the battle was over, but it was too late for Kanda. His three illusions had consumed too much life force and that part of the Noah’s Ark had already begun to collapse. Kanda expressed his final regrets regarding his goal, not being able to locate a certain person, just before the floor crumbled.

Thoughts: I take back what I said last week about this Kanda versus Skinn fight being dull, simply because this episode was awesome. It seems like I misinterpreted something last week as well, apparently Kanda’s weapon wasn’t broken and his innocence was still usable. The pacing and execution was done really well, we had a glimpse of Skinn’s past, a little bit about Kanda and some nice animation to compliment all that.

I am a little reluctant to believe that either of them are actually dead and it’s not because I think a typical shounen show have no balls and never kill off any main characters but rather the mystery that still remains at this point in the story. Even now, very little is known about Kanda and whoever this person he is looking. Skinn as well, the fact that his body turned into dust is a little suspicious. Having said that though, I think dead characters should stay dead since bring back a character does make things kind of lame. So, I guess Allen will have to find that person in Kanda’s stead.

Next episode should be the start of a new battle. According to xebek, it should be Krory versus the twins (who are going to gattai into one). This episode has restored my faith a little bit in this arc, despite the premises being a little unconvincing.

Hmm, I find the manga more enjoyable but the anime isn’t so bad either. I love those two guys in the preview because they’re so insane~~ And Road has always been my favourite character, AllenxRoad ftw! Lenalee can just go with Lavi.
