Code Geass R2 03: Where’s my Pizza Hut?

Summary: As Rollo was about to break in and kill Zero he received a phone call, it was Lelouch. Apparently Lelouch was back in school doing supplementary classes. Rollo was confused, how could Zero be on live TV if Lelouch was back at school? Before their conversation got any where, Villetta snatched the phone off Lelouch and told Rolo to head back.
It turned out that C.C had swapped places with Lelouch just before the speech was made about the formation of United States of Japan. Back at school, Lelouch slowly realised that not only has his memories been altered but all his friend’s as well. By then it was clear, everything around him was being controlled. Meanwhile, Guilford (replacement commander) announced that all the Black Knights members that had been captured will be executed if Zero does not face him in a fair duel.

Lelouch managed to find an opportunity to leave the school, Shirley has asked him to accompany her to get Villetta a present since her birthday was coming up. With the help of his geass, he took this chance and slyly manipulated the people he met in shops to cause chaos. He even managed to use his geass on one of the Britannian that was following him. With his newly acquired knowledge he waited back at the school basement (where the Britiannians were monitoring Lelouch) for Rolo’s return. When Rolo did return, in a rush to find out what the hell was going on, Lelouch pulled out his gun and was about to use his geass on Rolo. Suddenly, he was no longer in possession of a gun, furthermore Rolo was ready to pull the trigger from behind his head.
Meanwhile, Li Xingke suddenly started attacking the Black Knights and claimed that he will destroy them.

Lelouch’s fake little brother?
Thoughts: Unlike the previous two action packed episodes, this one is much more focused on the “intellectual” side of things. Once again we are reminded of Lelouch’s superiority in psychological battles and as usual his plan didn’t go smoothly. Again, leaving us with another cliff hanger (seems like this is the key ingredient for fan boy conversion).
Although Lelouch’s clever soliloquys and all the tension building up over at the United States of Japan was all very exciting, I think what really made the episode for me was that brief moment when Shirley asked to go on the tram. Everything just came rushing back, the greatness of episode 14 from season one, the awesomeness of season one! And how unimportant of a character Shirley was.

Something tells me that Rolo’s personality in the presence of Lelouch isn’t all an act. His sensitivity to his locket and the topic of birthdays seems a little suspicious, perhaps that’s the “real” him. May be something in his past that will help Lelouch get closer to him or even get to join the Black Knights, after all the ability to stop time is quite a valuable asset. If I did want a bit more craziness in the show, I might even say that Rolo is Nunally… with a sex change…. and a new pair of legs.
Not too sure what I want to find out more, how will Lelouch get himself out of this one or what the hell is wrong with Li Xingke? I guess the obvious thought would be “what’s next?”, may be another leak? Bring on episode 4!
P.S-Two episodes without a single reference to Pizza Hut, how can I ever live with that?
EDIT - T_T seems like I completely missed Pizza Hut… OTL. Thanks Sailor Enlil and Eva.
Preview:

Leak from the script of episode 4:
Rollo: Onii-sama… I am your imouto-chan!
orz to rollo, lol to rolo.
I guess it is worth a little less to sponser the rebellion… or it costs more…
Shirley is quite unimportant but hell, she is better when she is not emo!
So far, Shirley’s acting in the role Nunally had last season - showing the human side of Lelouch, the part that drives him to be an utterly callous bastard the rest of the time. The sympathy he has for her here is due to his own being mindwiped at the end of last season, so he’s feeling a little more guilty over making her forget him… since now she’s been wiped to forget Nunally too (perhaps) and Nina and a few others.
>Two episodes without a single reference to Pizza Hut, how can I ever live with that?
Uh, this episode did have a Pizza Hut reference. At the mall scene where the PA announced the bomb threat, the camera pans from the sky to the ground in one section of the mall - on the right you’ll see a Pizza Hut store.
Pizza Put is in it, how could you not notice? it appeared twice actually, among the shops on the street with Bioogle(sp?)
@Haesslich, indeed. Hard to imagine getting your memories altered not once… but twice O.o Poor Shirley
holy sh- , I fail!
All the awesomeness must have blinded me from the truth, Pizza Hut!!! Thanks for telling ^^
“Everything just came rushing back, the greatness of episode 14 from season one, the awesomeness of season one!”
So true. That was a great 2 part episode story act.
And sadly I have not refferenced Pizza hut in any of my blog posts.
Maybe I’ll mention it when I eat pizza.
I kinda wish Code Geass kept the whole idea that Lelouch has his memories back, and is still hiding it from the other people while still moving on with his Zero plan; I just find it interesting to see that characters who would otherwise pinned him as having obtained his memories back to be taken aback when they see Lelouch acting ‘unawakened.’ But now, since he revealed it to Rolo–and wasn’t aware that Rolo had his own Geass ability, things are now interesting.
@ Avisch, I wonder is, or should I say when Shirley is going to get more involved this season. Hopefully she’ll get her memories back, because I think, to be honest, she’s the girl for Lelouch.
@ Silent_Edge, that’s a good point actually. Usually when a character’s identity of “true form” is hidden there are always clever twists and turns to keep it hidden, especially in Code Geass Lelouch is always the one doing the outsmarting. Although I would like to see more of that, I think the events from this episode really sped up the show, now Lelouch will have to run away since his disguise has been busted… of course there’s always that possibility of him converting Rolo into an ally and his day’s as a “normal student” could continue.
Shirely being the girl for Lelouch is definitely an interesting possiblity. And Lelouch does care about her. I always think of C.C. and Lelouch being together because their personalities are so similar (both hide their emotions). But I definitely see that Shirely and Lelouch’s relationship could still continue in any way.
There’s so much they have to fit in this season. If they do intend to end it all this time.
We still have to get to:
-Jeremiah coming back
-info on C.C.’s people
-why V.V. and C.C. are on opposition.
-Chinese Federation characters
-Knights of Round
-What’s with Jupiter
And possibly Kallen’s brother.
