Real Drive 02: wah…? Cyber Skates?

Brief Summary: Souta woke his sister, Minamo, up for breakfast. It was a rather difficult task since Minamo was too busy having a dream of her past when she had been with her grandmother, but eventually he managed to get her out of bed. After breakfast, Minamo headed off for her new job, to take care of a man named Haru Masamichi.

The episode skips forward to where last episode left off when Minamo finds Haru.

After diving into the Metal, Haru attempted to fix the problem. However, the power generators had be physically damaged and there were nothing he could do from the inside the Metal. Instead of trying to find a way to fix the generators Haru wanted to reroute power from the old wind power facility but there was a problem, there were safety bolts physically preventing the system from working. To overcome this he gave instructions to Minamo, who had just arrived at the power station at the time, by lighting up the floor and telling her where to go. With that, the facility was operational again. As the wind blew, power was restored.

As Minamo was accompanying Haru to look at the sea as a celebration, a plane descended from the sky. It was Kushima, he came for Haru.

Thoughts: Quite disappointing to be honest. Having very vaguely introduced the “Metal” last week, there were nothing to follow it up in terms of explanation and elaboration. Not only that, but most of the episode was spent focused on Minamo, a character that feels out of place in every aspect. Given the genre and how serious the show takes itself, I wasn’t at all expecting her skirt to flip up every now and then.

The whole idea of Haru giving instructions to Mianmo through lighting a path felt kind of cheesy. Not to mention that the gust of wind almost seemed like they were trying to imply something superstitious, kind of weird considering how they haven’t even explained what the Metal is or how any of the technology works. Although, the whole of the second half did remind me of something Kushima said last episode, something along the lines of drawing humans and technology closer together.

I have no idea where this is heading, hopefully next episode will clear a few things up. Even though the content was a little disappointing, the animation is still nice, although the art will still take a little more time to get used to.
